Company Overview
PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda or usually called PT PIM, is a subsidiary of PT Pusri (Ltd) that specializes in urea fertilizer industry and other chemical industries. This was the first big scaled project the Government ever assigned to a national contractor. According to the Notary Deed Soeleman Ardjasasmita SH No. 54 dated 24 Februari 1982, the company was named PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (Persero). To determine the location to build PT PIM factory in Lhokseumawe – North Aceh, several things were taken into consideration: natural gas supplies, source of raw water, and the availability of port facility for fertilizer company PT AAF as a place for loading and unloading of factory’s equipments, also strategicness of the location for export destination countries.
PT PIM is the 11th urea fertilizer company in Indonesia and is the 2nd in Aceh province after PT AAF.
The construction of PIM factory was scheduled for 36 months, starting from year 1982 until 1984, where construction could be done 3 months faster from the targeted deadline. This resulted in construction cost saving in the amount of US$ 111 million from the total budget of US$ 424.4 million. In the other hand, due to the poor security condition in Aceh, the construction period for Urea Factory 2 was stretched from 33 months (the original target) to 58 months with total investment of US$ 310.2 million.
PT PIM factory comprises the following units:
- Prilled Urea Factory Unit (Urea Factory 1) with production capacity of 570.000 tons/year, using Mitsui Toatsu Japan technology.
- Ammonia Factory Unit (Ammonia Factory 1) with production capacity of 386.000 tons/year, using Kellog America technology.
- Granular Urea Factory Unit (Urea Factory 2 ) with production capacity of 570.000 tons/year, using Toyo Acces technology from Japan.
- Ammonia Factory Unit (Ammonia Factory 2) with production capacity of 396.000 tons/year, using Kellog America technology.
Company’s Articles of Association has been through a lot of changes, such as the changes on capital according to Government Regulation PP No. 28/ 7 Agustus 1997; changes on the company name from PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (Persero) to PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda, which is a subsidiary of PUSRI Holding, where all government’s share is transferred to PT PUSRI with share holders arrangement of 99.99% PT PUSRI and 0.01% Yayasan Kesejahteraan Karyawan (YKK) of PT PIM.
